KL Rahul Scores His 11th Century Against West Indies

KL Rahul reached a significant milestone in Ahmedabad by scoring his 11th Test century on Day 2 of the first Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

He resumed the innings on 53 and reached his hundred in 190 balls, steering India past the West Indies’ first-innings total of 162.

This century ended a 3,211-day wait for a home hundred, his first in India since December 2016 when he scored 199 against England in Chennai.

KL Rahul began cautiously after resuming on 53, balancing defense with calculated aggression. He rotated the strike effectively and punished loose deliveries while carefully negotiating the rough outside off-stump.

Rahul first combined with Yashasvi Jaiswal for a 68-run opening stand, after which Jaiswal fell for 36. Later, he partnered with captain Shubman Gill, putting together a 98-run stand while Gill contributed a gritty fifty.

Rahul’s strike rate remained around 50–55 early on but accelerated when spinners attempted to exploit rough patches. He scored 12 boundaries, demonstrating timing and judgment under pressure.

His innings ensured India surpassed the West Indies’ total and applied sustained pressure on the visitors.

The knock ended a long home-century drought and highlighted Rahul’s ability to anchor the innings and guide the team through challenging conditions.

Rahul’s Journey to 11 International Centuries

This century is Rahul’s second on Indian soil and brings his tally as an opener to ten, surpassing Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir, who each had nine centuries in that position.

Playing his 64th Test, Rahul has now accumulated over 3,860 runs and maintains an average above 50 against the West Indies.

The milestone reinforces his role as a key figure in India’s top order, particularly during a transitional period without veterans like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
