It’s been 4 months since Virat Kohli lifted his maiden IPL title for his favourite franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and now fresh rumours are sparking about his possible retirement from the league. Virat Kohli hasn’t yet made an official announcement about his retirement from the India Premier League. However, there is a lot of speculation about his IPL future in the tournament.

Reports say that Kohli has declined to renew his commercial contract with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the team he has been associated with since the IPL began in 2008.
Kohli Didn’t Renew His Commercial Contract
Rohit Juglan, one of the prominent IPL journalists, said in his YouTube video, “Last time before the mega-auction, I got the lead that before the start of the next season of the IPL, Virat Kohli would have to renew a contract in association with a brand. But the news is, he has not renewed his contract. Now the speculation is that Virat wants the RCB franchise to plan their way ahead without using his face”.
This news has fueled rumours that he may soon bid farewell to the IPL or his favourite team, RCB, especially after his recent retirements from Test and T20.
Aakash Chopra Denied His IPL Retirement Rumours
Aakash Chopra clarified about this rumour in a video on his YouTube channel. He explained that if Virat Kohli reportedly refused to renew his commercial contract with RCB, this does not mean that Kohli is retiring from IPL or leaving the franchise. He further explained that a commercial contract is different from a playing contract. A commercial contract solely focuses on the brand sponsorship; it doesn’t relate to his retirement from RCB.
“He has reportedly refused a commercial contract, but what does that mean? He will definitely play for RCB. If he is playing, he is definitely going to turn out for the same franchise. He added that since Kohli just won the IPL trophy with RCB, there’s no reason for him to leave the team now, and he isn’t going anywhere.: Chopra said.
In conclusion, Virat Kohli is not retiring from the IPL or leaving his team; he will remain an integral part of the RCB squad for IPL 2026 and beyond, entertaining his fans with his batting.
