Launched in 2016, the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) has grown into much more than just a state-level cricket tournament; it’s a full-blown cricketing festival that showcases the talent across Tamil Nadu. 

The Tuti Patriots claimed the title in the inaugural season of 2016, while the Dindigul Dragons lifted the trophy in the 2024 edition.

1. Dindigul Dragons – 2024

​In the 2024 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) Final, held on August 4, 2024, at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Dindigul Dragons clinched their maiden TNPL title by defeating the Lyca Kovai Kings by six wickets. 

Batting first, the Lyca Kovai Kings posted a total of 129 for 7 in their 20 overs. The Dindigul Dragons chased down the target, scoring 131 for 4 in 18.2 overs. The standout performer was Ravichandran Ashwin, the captain of Dindigul Dragons, who scored a crucial 52 runs off 46 balls and was named the Player of the Match. 

For the Lyca Kovai Kings, Ram Arvindh contributed 27 runs, while Sandeep Warrier, Varun Chakravarthy, and R. Vignesh each took two wickets for the Dragons.

2. Lyca Kovai Kings – 2023

​On July 12, 2023, the Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) clinched their maiden Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) title by defeating the Nellai Royal Kings (NRK) at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli. Batting first, LKK posted a formidable total of 205/5 in their 20 overs, with Suresh Kumar scoring a brisk 57 runs off 33 balls. 

In response, NRK was bundled out for 101 in 15 overs, succumbing to LKK’s dominant bowling attack. Jhatavedh Subramanyan was the standout bowler, earning the Player of the Match award for his exceptional performance. 

LKK secured victory by a commanding margin of 104 runs, marking a historic moment for the team in TNPL history.

3. Chepauk Super Gillies and Lyca Kovai Kings – 2022

​The 2022 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) final between Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) and Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) took place on July 31, 2022, at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore. LKK batted first, posting a total of 138/9 in 17 overs, with Sai Sudharsan leading the innings with a notable 65 runs off 42 balls. 

CSG managed 14/2 in 4 overs before rain interrupted play. Due to persistent rain, the match was abandoned, and both teams were declared joint winners. Sandeep Warrier of CSG was named the Player of the Match for his impressive bowling figures of 4 wickets for 29 runs. ​

4. Chepauk Super Gillies – 2021

​In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), the Chepauk Super Gillies faced the Lyca Kovai Kings on August 6 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Batting first, the Super Gillies posted a total of 159/7 in their 20 overs, largely due to a performance by R. Sathish, who scored 64 runs off 32 balls. 

The Lyca Kovai Kings managed 123/9, with Shahrukh Khan contributing 26 runs. The Super Gillies secured victory by 36 runs, with Sathish being named the Player of the Match for his all-round performance.

5. Chepauk Super Gillies – 2019

In the 2019 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) final, the Chepauk Super Gillies faced off against the Dindigul Dragons on August 15 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Super Gillies scored 126/8 in their 20 overs, while the Dragons managed 114/9, falling short by 12 runs. 

Ganeshan Periyaswamy of the Super Gillies was the standout player, taking an impressive 5 wickets for just 15 runs, earning him the Player of the Match title. 

For the Dragons, Sumant Jain was the key performer, scoring 46 runs off 47 balls. The Chepauk Super Gillies emerged victorious, showcasing their dominance in the league.

6. Madurai Super Giants – 2018

In the 2018 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) final, the Siechem Madurai Panthers triumphed over the Dindigul Dragons on August 12 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Dragons were bowled out for 117 runs in 19.5 overs, with Narayan Jagadeesan scoring a notable 51 runs off 44 balls. 

The Panthers chased down the target with ease, scoring 119/3 in just 17.1 overs, thanks to Arun Karthik’s outstanding performance of 75 runs off 50 balls, earning him the Player of the Match title. The Panthers secured victory by 7 wickets.

7. Chepauk Super Gillies – 2017

In the 2017 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) final, the Chepauk Super Gillies clashed with the Albert TUTI Patriots on August 20 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Patriots set a target of 144 runs, scoring 143/8 in their 20 overs, with Abhinav Mukund contributing a solid 41 runs off 38 balls. 

The Super Gillies chased it down with 145/4 in 19 overs, thanks to H Gopinath’s crucial 50 runs off 38 balls. Vasanth Saravanan’s quick 23* off 10 balls also played a key role, earning him the Player of the Match award. The Chepauk Super Gillies secured victory by 6 wickets.

8. Tuti Patriots – 2016

In the inaugural Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) final, held on September 18, 2016, the Albert TUTI Patriots faced the Chepauk Super Gillies at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Patriots dominated the match, scoring an impressive 215/2 in their 20 overs, with Abhinav Mukund leading the charge with an unbeaten 82 runs off 52 balls. 

The Super Gillies struggled in their chase, managing only 93 runs in 18.5 overs, with Vasanth Saravanan contributing 30 runs off 34 balls. Ganesh Moorthi’s exceptional bowling performance, taking 4 wickets for just 11 runs, earned him the Player of the Match award. The Patriots secured a resounding victory by 122 runs.
